My new data projector
Just Browsing
I was in Dick Smiths, a local shop with a good selection of computers, laptops, printers, tvs and all the other toys, just having a look around with no intention to buy anything. This would have been in August 2009 I think. Anyway, I was looking at all the stuff as you do, and as I wandered down towards the back of the shop I was just about to walk past the data projectors when the Lord said to me "Buy that projector." I was taken by surprise and my immediate (without thinking) reaction was to say to Him "What on earth do I want one of those for?"
Buying the Projector
Ok, the Lord has just told me to buy that projector, but I needed time to process the idea as I didn't have $999.95 and was reluctant to get into further debt... and then there was my wife. How would Sally react to me buying a projector that we didn't need?
I told myself that I needed to check out the specifications of the projector (Oh me of little faith!), after all, one of God's names is Ancient of Days and I wasn't too sure if He was up with modern technology! (Just kidding!!). Anyway, I went home and yeah, the projector looked pretty good and Sally didn't say anything when I told her God told me to buy the projector, so I went back and got it, putting it on credit.
What Now?
I bought the new projector home and unpacked it. I placed it in the carry bag along with the cords and remote and put it on the floor in the spare room.
The next day I went into the spare room and looked at it sitting there on the floor and asked myself, "What on earth am I going to do with you??" This continued over the next three weeks and I was beginning to wonder if it was ever going to get used! But at the same time I knew God had told me to buy it. Strange..
The Finances
Just after I bought the projector I was asked to build a website for a local business. Yes, the money from that paid for the projector and then some. God is no man's debtor, but a very good provider!
An Opportunity
About three weeks after I bought the projector, a really good friend of mine asked me if I would mind sharing some teaching with a friend of his. I agreed to this and we arranged to meet at my friend's place the following Thursday evening. I mentioned it to one of my students at work and she expressed interest too, so now we were four. Before Thursday arrived there were ten people wanting to come, half of whom were not even Christians! I was getting excited about this opportunity and decided that my informal lesson had better become something more. I prepared a PowerPoint presentation and organised the use of a room at work for the occasion as we were now too many for my friend's lounge.
Yes, I used the data projector! The presentation went well and people were blessed, as was I. Nearly everyone there asked if we could have another meeting the following Thursday night, which of course I agreed to. We have been meeting every Thursday night since and the projector gets used every Thursday night for our music videos, teaching etc. What a tremendous blessing has come out of that simple step of obedience! All who came have since given their lives to the Lord. Unfortunately some have drifted away, being drawn by the cares of this world, but a seed has been planted and I still have hope for them and encourage them as I am able.
