Salvation
Salvation is a bit of a mystery to the uninitiated. I must admit that before I knew what it was, I thought it meant going to church and having no fun in life. The "straight and narrow path" sounded kind of boring, but I discovered that there is far more to it than meets the eye.
Why do I need to be saved?
God's plan from the beginning was to have a family He could call His own. A family He could love, nurture and care for, and to have a relationship with for all eternity. Scripture teaches us that, in their natural state, people are in a state of sin. In this instance sin isn't about being naughty or doing bad stuff, but rather being separated from God. People who choose to reject God also choose not to accept Heaven as their eternal home either.
Salvation does two things. It connects you with God which gives you meaning to life, and it also prevents your life from being destroyed after death. Does that sound confusing? There is a need to understand that when our bodies die, our soul (which is the real us) departs from the body and is presented before God. If, during your life, you decided to make Jesus your Lord and Savior then facing God is like coming home to a loving Father. If, on the other hand, you have rejected the opportunity to be saved, then the Bible tells us that we face destruction in hell's fire.
Would a loving God send unbelievers to Hell?
The short answer is yes. God has given everyone the opportunity to know Him through the sacrifice of His son Jesus. Jesus was crucified and died to pay the price for our sin. This was a huge thing for God to do in order to give us the opportunity to become a part of His family. To reject God is also to reject the fact that Jesus died for you in that horrific sacrifice. Scripture likens our death to a harvest. When the wheat is harvested, the tares are separated out and cast on the fire. Remember, it is not so much that God rejects the unbeliever, but the unbeliever who rejects God. There is no place in Heaven for those who reject God's own Son who paid such a huge price for our salvation, and there is nowhere else to go other than the hell fire that was prepared for satan and his fallen angels.
The benefits of salvation
Contrary to my thoughts that a Christian life would be boring and lame, I have found salvation hugely beneficial. Not only did I get to find out who I am and why I'm here, but I found that knowing the Creator of the universe on a personal level nothing short of awesome! In the past I had used drugs and alcohol to help me not to face the issues I had. God taught me how to face up to and deal with those issues and put them behind me, which benefited my life hugely. He also knew me better than I knew myself and was able to bring out the best in me. This is an ongoing process. He has a plan for our lives, to give us an abundant life and teach us and guide us into success. He develops our character through the Holy Spirit and guides us through life's journey so that our lives become more meaningful and fulfilled. I can't imagine life without Him now. It would seem so empty and shallow. And to cap it off, we get to spend eternity with our wonderful Creator. Awesome!!
How to be saved
Salvation is a simple thing. You do not have to be going through any distress in order to find God, but most, myself included, tend to ignore God until they hit rock bottom and have nowhere else to turn.
All it takes is to make a decision to spend the rest of your life with God, following Him. Accept that Jesus Christ died to pay the price for your sin, and then rose again from the dead and you're on your way. Upon your invitation, Jesus will dwell in you and guide you through life. It's also important to ask God for the Holy Spirit as it is He that will play a major part in your journey going forward.
It is also very advisable to ask God to show you a church to attend. As a servant and a follower of God, He now has the opportunity to show you the best options. His ways are different from ours and He is faithful and true and can be totally relied upon and trusted. Sometimes it may seem like He asks you to do something that seems a bit odd, but the outcome will always be good for the obedient.
My prayer for you
Father, I pray that the person reading this page will listen to their heart rather than their head and make the most of this opportunity to receive Jesus as Lord and Saviour and start on their life journey with you. I pray that you will set them free from their past life and enable them to overcome the things that once had them bound. Please place people around them who will support and encourage them in accordance with your will. I pray also that you will give them the assurance in their hearts that they have met with you and that you would take all things concerning them in hand and work all things for good as they choose to follow you, amen.
Jesus said..
John 14:6 Jesus said to him, I am the Way, the Truth, and the Life; no one comes to the Father but by Me.
John 1:12 But as many as received Him, He gave to them authority to become the children of God, to those who believe on His name,
Matthew 11:28 Come to Me all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.
John 3:5 Jesus answered, Truly, truly, I say to you, Unless a man is born of water (natural birth) and the Spirit (spiritual birth), he cannot enter into the kingdom of God.
John 3:6 That which is born of the flesh is flesh, and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit.
John 3:7 Do not marvel that I said to you, You must be born again.
