God Sent a Rainbow For My Daughter
When my children were young it was my habit each night to go and pray with them when they went to bed. My daughter was the youngest, just four years old at the time, and quite the little madam. I remember well this little lady standing there with hands on hips telling me off about something lol. She was full on with everything she did, unlike her two older brothers who were quite placid and easy to manage.
God, show me a rainbow..
Was my daughter's demand for several days. She was exasperated by the fact that God did not cooperate and this certainly came out in her tone of voice lol.
When you pray...….
As I was walking down the passage to my daughter's bedroom to pray for her one night, the Lord told me to emphasis "Father" when I prayed. I wondered why He asked me to do this, but did it without question. I prayed "Father, thank you for being such a wonderful father to us, and Father...." you get the idea I'm sure.
When I had finished praying my daughter asked if God was our father. I replied that He is the father of Christians.
Am I a Christian?
She then asked if she was a Christian. I replied that I didn't know, which led her to ask what a Christian was. I explained to her how Jesus died on the cross to pay for our sins (she had heard this all before) and explained that if she wanted to be a Christian and have God as her father, she had to say sorry to God for all the wrong she had done, and needed to ask Jesus to come and live in her heart and make her a new person (in more detail). That night she prayed and asked Jesus to be her Lord, such a wonderful and exciting moment. We finished our time together and I let her go to sleep.
The rainbow
The next morning my daughter got out of bed as usual and pulled her curtains back to reveal the most magnificent, bright, colourful rainbow I have ever seen! She was so excited as she called us to her room to see it. Her Heavenly Father gave her something to remember for the rest of her life!
What an awesome Father we have, so amazing in every way!!
